Modern Horizons

Modern Horizons launched in June 2019 as a print-to-demand set built purely for competitive players, adding powerful new cards straight into the Modern format without ever touching Standard. Unlike Magic's usual world-spanning sets, it carried no unified story or plane of its own — designers called it a "love letter" to the beloved Time Spiral block, packed with returning mechanics and nostalgia for veteran players. Its five snow-covered basic lands were a fitting nod to that throwback spirit, marking one of the first sets in years to bring snow lands back into regular play.
