Unglued

Unglued was Magic's first supplemental set, released in August 1998 as a standalone, self-parodying departure from normal tournament play — a set built around jokes about the game itself rather than a traditional world or story. Its silver-bordered cards poke fun at Magic's own history, mechanics, and players, but its five basic lands are printed in black border and played completely straight. Those lands, conceived years earlier by artist Christopher Rush, were the very first full-art basic lands Wizards ever printed, in the treatment that Zendikar would later popularize a decade on. Each land type appears in exactly one full-art illustration, by five different artists. It's a small, quiet footnote inside a set otherwise built for laughs.
